Composition is more important than anatomy
Drei Strohpuppen saßen, standen und lagen in meinen Kleidern im Ausstellungsraum. Durch die Wölbung von Oberflächen, die wir mit Körpern verbinden, evozierten sie eine geisterhafte Präsenz, die aber wie ein trompe l‘oeil zerfiel, wenn man den richtigen Blickwinkel verließ. Flankiert wurden sie von vier farbigen Grafiken: Wieder der Typ mit Schirmmütze.
Die Wiederholung der Elemente ließ den Verdacht aufkommen, man habe es hier mit einem bestimmten, immer selben Charakter zu tun. Selbstbildnisse?, fragten Rezipienten. Dies wies ich zurück: Die Arbeiten spielten doch nur mit den Hüllen eines Körpers und nicht seinem Selbst. Aber vielleicht irre ich und zwischen beiden ist gar kein Unterschied.

Three sculptures made of clothes and straw sat, stood and lay in a showroom. The curvature of surfaces that we associate with bodies evoked a ghostly presence, which disintegrated like a trompe l‘oeil if one left the right point of view. They were accompanied by four colored graphics: again the guy with the cap.
The repetition of elements gave rise to the suspicion that one was dealing with a specific, always same character. Self-portraits?, recipients were asking me. I rejected this suggestion and insisted that the works were only playing with the shells of a body and not with its self. But maybe I was wrong and there is no difference between the two.
